Chief Executive – Mark Rose

Mark brings wealth of talents and experience to the role as first Chief Executive of The Rees Hotel & Luxury Apartments Queenstown. Mark has spent his working life in the hospitality industry in the UK, the USA, Australia and New Zealand. He is a trained chef and a specialist in food and beverage services who has managed vineyard and winery operations in addition to his hotel management duties. He came to The Rees Hotel and Luxury Apartments Queenstown directly from an appointment as General Manager of the prestigious Cameron House on Loch Lomond, one of Scotland’s finest luxury hotels. Two golf courses, five dining rooms, a marina, a spa [voted best spa in Scotland], a staff of 450 – and a guest list that ranges from sport stars and celebrities to the King of Jordan.

Executive Chef – Ben Batterbury

Our award-winning Executive Chef, Benjamin Batterbury, is a culinary expert with a polished repertoire that includes French and English fusion recipes mingled with the flavors of Madeira on the Portuguese archipelago.Ben has a love of using supreme quality ingredients and seasonal Southern produce he personally sources in Central Otago and intimately handcrafts from the ground up in his kitchen, ensuring perfection.Since 2009, Ben has been Executive Chef at True South Dining Room, our impeccably stylish flagship restaurant.

Director of Sales & Marketing – Nicky Gyles

Nicky is responsible for marketing and sales solicitation activities. Nicky has over ten years experience in the hospitality and tourism industry, most recently as Sales Manager for Carrington Resort and prior to that as Corporate Sales Executive for Scenic Circle Hotels. Her goal now is to apply her tourism, hospitality and sales experience to help position The Rees Hotel and Luxury Apartments Queenstown as one of the top accommodation providers in the country.

Front Office Manager – Mel Bohse

During her 25-year career, Mel has established herself as a one of Australia’s foremost technology marketing and sales experts.  She has a unique ability to understand and successfully commercialise technology which has led her to create, manage and grow entire sales and marketing departments for Media Tech Pacific, Attachmate and Anixter.
Whilst at AltaVista, Mel’s technology expertise and leadership skills were essential to the launch and growth of AltaVista in  Australia, New Zealand, India and Korea.  During this period Mel was also one of the first female executives in Australia to be invited and accepted by the global network of Young Presidents Organisation (YPO).
Following the acquisition of AltaVista by Overture Services Inc. Mel Bohse was appointed Managing Director of Overture Services Australia Pty. Limited.  Mel was appointed to this position in 2003 after working as Vice President of Asia Pacific for AltaVista.  In 2004 Overture Services Inc. was purchased globally by Yahoo.  Mel continued to lead Overture for another 18 months until the company was integrated and rebranded to Yahoo Search Marketing.�
After a brief break Mel was recruited in May 2006 to establish a brand for the Spire Luxury Hotels Group in NZ, and stayed with the group until sold in 2010.ďż˝
Mel’s dynamic management style is characterised by creativity, dedication to quality and a commitment to leading by example.  She has a reputation for creating unique corporate cultures, and fostering loyal, well-qualified and highly motivated employees in the companies she leads.


Food & Beverage Operations Manager – Michael (Mick) Druett

As a seasoned hospitality professional with over 20 years’ experience in the industry, Michael joins The Rees directly from the award winning Saffron Arrowtown. Prior to joining Saffron, Michael was a Food & Beverage Manager at Hayman Whitsundays, Great Barrier Reef, Australia.


Architect – Kerry Avery

Kerry is the principal of Avery Team Architecture, and has led The Rees Hotel and Luxury Apartments Queenstown design team from initial concept to realisation. Kerry drew his inspiration for The Rees Hotel from the natural landforms of the Southern Lakes District and the rich building traditions of Otago settlers. Winner of numerous awards in a career spanning 30 years, Kerry has created a portfolio of major works, including Kauri Cliffs Resort – Kerikeri Bruce Mason Theatre – Takapuna Hallenstein Apartments – Queenstown

Furniture Designer – Ed Cruikshank

Ed Cruikshank applied skills acquired in the London studios of the renowned international designer, Viscount Linley, to design a range of furniture specifically for The Rees Hotel and Luxury Apartments Queenstown. Ed selected solid, enduring timbers – American Black Walnut and American White Oak – and neutral earthy linen fabrics to cover upholstery as the basic elements for his clean-lined and finely finished range of 34 pieces.
