Ski

At The Rees Hotel we are dedicated to ensuring that you enjoy your stay at your pace. With a whole host of activities to do and sights to see, let me take the stress out of your holiday. I can look into your enquiry or book your activity before you get here, or alternatively, after you’ve checked into the hotel come and discuss your options with me. The biggest benefit of using this service is that the charge can be placed onto your room account and you can pay for the activities all on checkout. There is no charge for this service and there is no commission placed on the activity.

We are really looking forward to this winter at The Rees and we want to help you do the same. We have four fantastic ski-fields in the area and I can help with arranging Ski or Snowboard packages, which will allow you to make the most of your time on the slopes.

Rental Equipment, Transport and Lessons

There are several companies in Queenstown that we can arrange all of your rental requirements and transport options with. These rental companies will deliver the items to our ski locker ready for your first day on the slopes. If you need transport to and from the slopes there are two main options for you, there are transport companies that run shuttles with bus and coach services from town or we can charter a mini-bus for you with your own driver, many of whom will even do a few runs with you.

Lessons

Are you new to the snow? or looking for a refresher? then I can arrange for the booking to be made with an independent instructor that can look after your group, family or simple one on one lessons.

Coronet Peak

Coronet Peak, the South Island’s most popular mountain resort is just 25 minutes from Queenstown. Fans have flocked here to enjoy winter sports for more than 60 years.

Families and enthusiastic newcomers continue to revel in the cosmopolitan atmosphere, fantastic views and diverse rolling terrain providing challenges and hidden delights for all ability levels. Recently expanded, the dedicated beginner slopes with twin conveyer lifts makes learning fun and easy for novices.

Night Skiing and First Tracks mean Coronet Peak offers longer on-snow hours than any other ski area in the country.

Veterans and first-timers will be blown away by the multimillion dollar transformation of the base area for the 2008 season, elevating this much-loved mountain to true world class status. The brand new building provides superb facilities including expanded food and beverage services a huge sundeck, new and enlarged spaces for ticketing, storage, rental and expanded kids facilities doubling child care capacity.

Automated snowmaking capacity has been tripled since 2008 ensuring the best possible snow cover over a long season. Don’t miss the European style Heidi’s Hut at Rocky Gully for gourmet pizzas, pasta, fantastic coffee and other Italian style delicacies as well as tasty mulled wine from the bar.

Coronet Peak’s dedicated race facility provides a training ground for world class athletes and hosts many prestigious race and social events including FIS Ski Racing, New Zealand Nationals and the American Express Queenstown Winter Festival.

Coronet Peak has 280 skiable hectares accessed by a six seater express chair, an express quad, a double chair, a t-bar, 2 surface conveyor lifts and a beginners handle tow.

There’s a dedicated Dirty Dog terrain park and the mountain’s longest run, the M1-Big Easy is 2.4 km long and popular with intermediate and advanced skiers and riders.

An award-winning ski and snowboard school and children six and under ski enjoy free day passes.

Coronet Peak is a short 25-minute (18km) drive along a fully sealed road from Queenstown. The ski area has a targeted opening date of June 7 and the season generally lasts until early October.

The Remarkables

Situated high in The Remarkables mountain range and surrounded by craggy peaks, The Remarkables Alpine Park provides a spectacular, true alpine environment.

Extending over 700 hectares of reserve land, there’s 220 skiable hectares accessed by three quad chairs within three sunny, wide open bowls.

From the first timer through to those who like to be challenged by narrow chutes, rock drops and off-piste powder, The Remarkables is all about fun, families, freestyle and the love of the big mountain environment.

For backcountry lovers, the 1.5km Homeward Bound is considered the best in-bounds backcountry run, and a short walk from the Shadow Basin Chair delivers access into the chutes’ amazing big mountain terrain. For the not-so-serious, slide down groomed tracks on specifically designed inner-tubes in The Ozone Tubing Park – a must for pure fun seekers.

New in 2008, “The Stash” project – a Burton signature terrain park, the first in the Southern Hemisphere, adds a kilometre long feature packed “back-country park experience”. This complements the existing 150m FIS specification Parklife Superpipe, FruJu Beginner Park and UP & GO Terrain Park. The Remarks is a true freestyle haven with jibs for all levels.

The 2008 installation of two new surface conveyor lifts doubles the capacity of the learners’ area, located within full view of the café sun deck; a great place for families to watch learning children or friends. Watch out for the playful antics of New Zealand’s native parrot, the Kea, residents at The Remarkables.

Snowmaking capacity has also been increased on main trails. There’s an awardwinning ski and snowboard school, café, retail shop and equipment hire, and regular live music on the deck and tunes in the parks add to the relaxed atmosphere.

Just a 45-minute drive from Queenstown, The Remarkables brand new 4×4 coaches and transport system means you can leave the car at home and travel stress free.

Kids aged 6 and under receive a free day lift pass.

Treble Cone

Treble Cone is the home of New Zealand’s most exhilarating snow and winter experience, with the largest skiable terrain, longest groomed trails and the highest vertical rise in the South Island.

On the edge of the majestic Southern Alps, Treble Cone ski area offers outstanding views across Lake Wanaka and Mt Aspiring, an award winning cafe and unparalleled Snow School clinics that will keep you fizzing.

Cardrona

Situated approximately 45 minutes from Queenstown in the Cardrona Valley this is a premier ski area that offers fantastic skiing to both novices and the more proficient skier.
